Digging a well is a laborious effort especially if done manually. However, the sight of water brings joy that erases the stress associated with it from the mind.
Once the well hits the water level, water begins to flow in it and it becomes a source of comfort, life and hope to many in that neighbourhood.
When drought hits the land, the flow of water in the well is affected and the quantity of water that can be drawn from the well is reduced. This puts many lives that feed on it in distress.

Now imagine what happens to the well when it is filled with sand by some mischievous individuals. The owner of the well suffers a great loss and is put at a disadvantage and the ripple effect spirals onto the people in the neighbourhood.
It is therefore going to be foolish of a house owner to allow his well to be filled with sand knowing the grave implications. Sadly, that is the condition of many of us today. We have allowed sand to fill the well of our spiritual devotion and consecration and the water that comes forth from us is no longer fresh and clean and for some the well is almost drying up to the point of not giving any water. Many of us have left God, the fountain of living water and have gone ahead to dig for ourselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water.

Why would we allow our years of diligent labour and devotion to go down the drain? How do we intend to sustain ourselves and those that feed on us with the little or no water left in our well? Can we truly dig wells that can sustain others when we don’t follow God’s way of building deep wells with fresh water?

Here is a clarion call to us all to examine ourselves and make conscious effort to re-dig our wells that are drying up, even as we follow God’s pattern. For some of us, the sand that has been clogging our well could be prayerlessness while for some it could be little or no time for the study and meditation of the Word of God. For some, it is constant disobedience to God’s word or doing it in our own way and convenience. Yet for some, it could be a growing affection for the things of this world or a carefree attitude to the things of God. The list is endless and inexhaustible.
The desire of God is that His river of living water will flow out of our bellies so we must need retrace our steps and reconnect ourselves to God who is the source from which our river receives its water. To disconnect ourselves from Him in any way is to build shallow wells which ends up being clogged up. We must take heed lest this becomes our reality.
ARE YOU WILLING TO RETURN TO THE FOUNTAIN OF LIVING WATER?
A beautiful write up. More Grace and God bless.
